Most self-contained outdoor cameras are built into camouflaged enclosures for deployment as hunting/game/trail cameras and although this type of camera can be used in a green/leafy environment to keep watch on property and buildings, there was a distinct lack of simple to deploy self-powered camera systems that could be added to the exterior of a building to gather vital video evidence. With the introduction of the Spy Pod Outdoor Security Camera, that gap was been filled. Now, the original product has ben discontinued, we have replaced this with our vastly updated version of the same concept. This means that the camera can be used to monitor structures, assets or buildings in more remote locations, as long as there is a 4G cellphone network present that allows remote connection and control.

Best Hidden Outdoor Spy Camera

The colour and shape of the Spy Pod allows it to be placed discreetly on the perimeter of a house, out-building such as shed, garage or even barns and other more remote storage units. The spy camera can record in 2K HD plus (real time) high definition, both during the day and also at night, when the ‘No Glow’ LED infrared illuminators (940NM) will automatically come on. The ‘black’ infrared LED’s provide illumination for an area up to 10m in front of the unit. These LED’s illuminators emit an infrared glow at a frequency below the spectrum that can be seen by the human eye. This results in no visible glow from the unit, making it completely discreet although the device is still capable of capturing video/still images when in complete darkness.

Remote Live Monitoring Through 4G Networks

This new Spy Pod can easily be remotely controlled through a Smartphone app which is free to download to your Android or iPhone handset. The camera itself is supplied with a specialist E IOT 4G Data only SIM card which provides remote control and setup ability. The SIM is prepaid for a month use, but thereafter it is easy to purchase a very reasonable extension to the service through the control app for a period of time that suits your requirements. Real time ‘live’ viewing from the camera means that you can react immediately to a situation as it unfolds. With inbuilt two-way audio communication, if desired, you will be able to speak remotely through the integrated camera speaker and as the system also has a microphone, the remote user will hear what is being said or is happening.

Motion Detection – Memory Storage Options

The inbuilt heat sensing PIR can detect change of temperature/movement in vicinity which will trigger motion activated video recording. Both video and stills have time and date stamping on the video enabling use for evidential purposes. captured video footage can be automatically stored to the installed Micro SD Card. No card is supplied as standard (see options dropdown menu), but the unit can accept cards up to 128GB. Cloud storage is also available as a cost option if required. Through the app, recorded footage can be watched back and/or downloaded back to the smartphone. If an SD card is being used as storage, there is also the option to remove this physically from the camera and connect to a computer to review and back up the files. The camera will automatically alert the user when motion is detected in front of the camera, using push notifications, sent to the smartphone app, which when checked will instantly open the app to show a live camera view.

Extended Battery Life Technology

The Spy Pod enclosure shields all the internal electronics from the weather with a rating of IP65 rating. The camera system is powered by an internal rechargeable lithium battery (10400mAh), which can, when fully charged provide a standby (only) time of up to 10 months, although as an example, if the camera was triggered 10 times each day, the overall usage time would be reduced to 5 months. As a general rule, in a high traffic area where the camera is triggered day and night, using the infrared LED’s, then overall deployment time would be reduced further. The battery life can be accessed through the app, enabling the best timing of a battery recharge. If the Spy Pod is sited where there is access to a power supply, then the device could be powered full time, thereby giving an unrestricted deployment time. The product s suplied with a charge lead and a swivel wall bracket with screws.

Is this product available in any other colour?

No, unfortunately at the moment these devices are only manufactured in a black casing designed for discreet deployment in a variety of circumstances.

Is the Spy Pod Outdoor Security Camera completely waterproof?The device when sealed correctly with be completely weatherproof to IP66 rating, however, we could not guarantee that it would remain watertight if completely immersed in water.

Is the unit provided with anything to attach it to a tree or similar?

This is not designed for that type of deployment, although it is supplied with a moveable bracket which could assist with various deployment scenarios. It also has a flat base which mean that it can standalone on a flat surface.

Will the Spy Pod record sounds as well as video?

This product does record audio on the video and also has two-way audio capability, so it’s ossible to speak remotely through the camera if desired.

How do I playback the recorded video from the Spy Pod?

The video files are recorded either onto an integrated SD card (microSD) or tere is a cloud storage option (subscription required). Files can be downloaded remotely to Smartphone and played back on the phone screen or the SD card can be removed and recordings then played back through a connected computer or directly via USB to a Smartphone.

Do I have to connect this device to a computer to program the settings?

All settings and functionality is controled throuh an app that is available for free on Android and iOS phones, so everything in this regard can be remotely controlled.

Do I have to top up the included 4G data SIM card or is everything included in the purchase price?

A months worth of credit is included, however for continuation of this data connection service, further payment can be made through the app dependant on the extension time required

You will need to consider the following to use this product:

• Although this unit is IP65 rated making it weatherproof, this does not mean that the units is watertight if submerged completely in water.
• The device is powered by an internal Lithium rechargeable battery. There is no alternative removable battery option on this version of Spy Pod.
• The Spy Pod can if desired be powered from a mains supply, albeit this would expose the unit to water ingress if deployed outside in inclement weather
• The device is not supplied with an SD card as standard, although these are available as an optional extra on the product.
• You can either review recorded footage remotely via the app or by physically removing the SD Card to watch through your computer or Smartphone.
